Jessica is an emerging environmental photographer working on photographing stories vital to connecting people, nature and culture.

Jessica’s passion for photography began when she was a curious child with a camera, exploring the countryside near her hometown of Monterey, Virginia, population 53.  Growing up on a small sheep farm in a rural community, she was instilled with a love of nature and a desire to protect and conserve her way of life. After graduating from college with a degree in Environmental Science from Oregon State University and many cameras later, Jessica was a Navy officer, photographing the world from the bridge of her forward-deployed amphibious ship.

Photography took on a new importance in Jessica’s life after her grandmother passed away, leaving behind boxes and boxes of cherished memories.  These were photographs that, together, comprised a complete photographic legacy of the family dating to the 1890s.  Fueled by the desire to give this gift of family heritage to others, Jessica became a full-time photographer.   The first iteration of her business was a natural light children and family photography, focusing on creating modern images in beautiful natural settings. You could often find Jessica barefoot on the beach at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach photographing a child’s first experience with sand or salt water.

When Jessica and her husband moved to Ballston Spa, NY in August of 2010, she decided to combine her love of environment with photography by pursuing a masters degree and becoming an environmental photographer.  You’ll now find her roaming upstate New York with a sturdy pair of hiking boots and research study in hand.

In addition to photographing the environment, Jessica is a talented fine art, travel, and commercial photographer.  She enjoys savoring the simple things in life and is a self-proclaimed kid at heart who just likes to have fun.  Jessica’s home base is Ballston Spa, New York lives with her husband and two cats. She is currently working on a Masters of Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins University.
